The Murphy Bed was named after its inventor, William Lawrence Murphy , who invented it over 100 years ago in order to increase the usable space in his small San Francisco apartment. It was a simple but innovative idea – to pack away his bed easily in the day time to use the space left over for other things. Coming from a family woodworking tradition dating back to 1850, German Master Cabinetmaker, Gunter Mook, began a MURPHY-BED company in Canada in 1982. All our Beds have a  heavy duty, universal, easy-operation lift mechanism the best in the industry  which allows for varying spring combinations in order to balance all bed sizes Single through to Queen, creating, weightless fingertip operation.
